Under the Hill Southeast Michigan Mensa Group

Back in 2001, I was really interested in meeting some more intellectual folks in my area. So I joined Mensa. I went to a couple of the meetings of Southeast Michigan Mensa, and while they had some interesting speakers, and I enjoyed meeting the other members there, I only met one person my age. That person remains one of my best friends to this day. But, I wanted to meet more intellectuals my age in the area.

Mensa has what are known as Special Interest Groups (SIG's), groups within Mensa that focus on a specific topic or group of people. So I decided to start a group for those members of Southeast Michigan Mensa in their 20's and 30's so that we could all meet each other. I figured that many of them had also joined hoping to meet folks their own age, but also weren't finding those people at the larger local gatherings.

So I obtained the list of those local Mensans in my age group from the national office, and sent out a mass email to see who would be interested. Immediately, I found some interest, and soon after, we had our first meeting. We decided to call the group the "Under The Hill" Group (clever huh?!) Since then, we have met every month, and it has been a blast. I have made many friends through the group, had great conversations, and a lot of fun. The group has continued to grow ever since its formation, and there are always new members joining.
