MUSIC RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE WEEK

I love music and, every now and then, I come across a song, album, music video or musician that really moves me. I get really excited and want to share it with others both so that they can enjoy it and to bring some well-deserved recognition to the piece of work and the artist. But it isn’t always something that inspires me to write an entire full-length review or even to necessarily add it to my music store. Sometimes I just want to quickly recognize something musical that I appreciate along with a short description of my thoughts on it and why it moved me.

At first, I considered using Twitter to do this. It seems many people use it as a great tool to blast out short, quick updates with links to things that they like. And I think this is a good option. However, at this point, I still don’t really want to become very active on Twitter for a variety of reasons. So, as an alternative, the idea came to me to start this section.

On any given week, if there are musical items that I’ve come across and felt moved to share in this format, I’ll add them here with some of my thoughts on them. I may not write here every week or even very often. But, whenever I find something appropriate for this space – whether one thing or a burst of several in a week - I will. It could be new music that just came out that week. It could be something older that I first heard or saw that week. Or it might be music I’ve known about for a while but for which, during that week, I suddenly realized my appreciation.

In any case, this page will give some insight into where my mind is musically at any given time.

Since my interests, and therefore this site, focus so much on deep issues, such as politics, relationships and psychology, it’s inevitable that my very reason for liking some of the music that I do is because it taps into these types of areas. When this is the case, I’ll sometimes explain that in my description of the item. So in addition to discovering music that you might like here, you may also find some unique insights on these pages about how certain music ties into larger themes in ways that you may not have considered.
